Pencil drawing of the 5 Earl of Carnarvon which formerly hung in the Salon
of the Luxor Hotel
“Lord Carnarvon was not seriously injured in the motor car accident which occurred
to him while automobiling last Saturday from Rheims to Langenschwalbach, where
he was to join Lady Carnarvon…When nearing the journey’s end, while the motor
car was travelling at a fairly good speed, one of the wheels became detached, with
the result that Lord Carnarvon and the driver were thrown violently forward out of the
vehicle. Lord Carnarvon fell into a ditch, and the water was the means of breaking
his fall, so that, apart from the shock, he escaped with but a few bruises. The driver
was uninjured”. 11.1 ”
